Drunk driver sentenced

A Whangarei man has been sentenced to home detention and community work after being caught driving over the legal alcohol limit for a sixth time.

Kara WHAREUMU, 50, was stopped driving on High St, Whangarei, at 11.34pm on August 26 and a test showed he had a level of 732 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mcg.

Whareumu was sentenced to four months' home detention, 150 hours' community work and disqualified from driving for 13 months for his sixth drink-driving conviction.
