A Northland lodge on the edge of Waipoua Forest has scooped the title of TripAdvisors 2013 Travellers' Choice Award in three categories.

The Waipoua Lodge has been awarded best luxury hotel, best service and best small hotel and ranked among the top 25 accommodation providers in New Zealand.

Owners Ian and Fran Farrant bought the lodge in November 2010 and have been focusing on growing its reputation for hospitality and cuisine.

The positive feedback from guests on the popular TripAdvisor site resulted in the award. Celebrating the 100-year history of the lodge, combined with acknowledging the natural beauty of the Kauri Coast and ancient trees, is of utmost importance to Ian and Fran, who feel they are merely custodians of a very special place.

"Our guests come from all around the world, and we are very proud to be able to represent and promote the area. We need more people to visit the Kauri Coast. Northland is well known for the beautiful Bay of Islands but so many miss this coastline," Mrs Farrant says.
