A two-day horse trek has raised $10,000 towards a covered arena for Bay of Islands Riding for the Disabled.

More than 120 riders from all over the North Island took part in the Wai O Te Kumaruru trek earlier this month in the scenic countryside between Kaikohe and Dargaville.

The money raised will help pay for a roof over the volunteer group's arena at Waimate North. A roof is needed for the programme to continue because, during the past term, 50 per cent of sessions had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

The event was organised by Jeanette Hindmarsh and Peter Guy with Riding for the Disabled providing the catering.

Anyone interested in becoming a member can call Glenys on (09) 405 9771 or 021 624 642. Go to www.sportsground.co.nz/boirda for more information.
