Transfer station fees about to rise
Fees to dump rubbish at Whangarei District Council transfer stations will rise on March 18, partly to cover Emission Trading Scheme landfill levies.
The price rise will also bring transfer station fees into line with charges and the council's ReSort recycling centre in Whangarei and cover inflation.
The council's infrastructure and services committee yesterday resolved to raise transfer station fees to take rubbish in car boots from $15 to $17; station wagons, people movers and SUVs, $25 to $28; utes, vans and small trailers, $35 to $38.
To dump vegetation, fees for a 65-litre rubbish bag will rise from $1.20 to $1.30; car boot, $8 to $10; station wagons, people movers and SUVs, $13 to $15; utes, vans and small trailers, $18 to $20.
The fee for dumping refrigerators and gas bottle decommissioning will rise from $6 to $7. And a $25 charge is proposed for dumping CRT screens from computers and TVs.
The committee also decided to introduce Eftpos facilities at transfer stations.
