Supporters rally for GP Lance O'Sullivan
About 150 people gathered at a Far North marae to discuss their concerns about the resignation of GP Lance O'Sullivan.
Spokeswoman Vaniva Rutene-Lewis said the consensus among Dr O'Sullivan's supporters at Monday's hui at Te Paatu Marae, south of Kaitaia, was that they wanted to talk with the Te Hauora o Te Hiku o Te Ika board.
The seven board members had been invited and chief executive Bill Halkyard promised last week's protest he would encourage them to attend, but then told Ms Rutene-Lewis on Sunday night they would not.
Despite initial anger Ms Rutene-Lewis said "a good part of the whanau" had no desire to attack the board members, but wanted to work with and guide them.
The hui resolved to call another meeting in two weeks' time, with board members again invited, to ask how Dr O'Sullivan's departure had come about.
"We want some justice for Lance. People want him back, as long as he wants to be back, and he says he does-," Ms Rutene-Lewis said.
Te Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira took part in the hui and said he would do what he could to ensure the board turned up to the next meeting.
