Barge Park will play host to the filming of a new superhero film for children called 4 Star Whetu Wha.

Children of Educare Northland will be treated to a live show by the stars of a newly released Northland-made children's DVD today.

The stars of 4 Star Whetu Wha will be out in force at Barge Park to entertain 300 Educare children and 200 of their parents and caregivers.

The DVD was conceived, developed and shot in Northland with Northland actors and a Northland film crew.

It tells the story of four superhero teenagers, Waariki, Ginja, SuppG and Spinarella.

In the film the characters lead a normal life until they are called by the sound of Waariki's conch shell.

That sound transforms them to 4 Star Whetu Wha, a group of superheroes, each with a different special power.

Waariki is transformed to become a kapa haka warrior, SuppG busts out heavy-duty hip-hop moves, Ginja loves martial arts and Spinarella becomes a prima ballerina.

They are sent out to fight their arch-nemesis Captain Cheats, whom they chase around the world in a spaceship.

Film producer Shelly Matiu was inspired to make the film after a trip to her daughter's ballet class.
