The James St premises formerly occupied by the Whangarei-owned Lemonwood women's clothing shop has been snapped up by Staxs, a company with a chain of 10 women's clothing shops around the North Island.

Lemonwood closed down a few weeks ago.

Staxs is owned by the Tauranga-based Ross family, which set up the business 25 years ago. Second generation owners, Adam and Sophia Ross, have owned and run the company for the past 16 years. Sophia Ross says they did their homework in Whangarei before entering the market and decided there was an opening for their brand. The company had recently rebranded as a retailer offering moderately-priced versatile, stylish clothes for women who want some edginess without slavishly following trends, and specialising in occasion clothing.
