Several thousand litres of glue which spilled onto the road after two trucks collided on State Highway 1 south of Whangarei this morning has been cleared.

The crash happened about 3.30am between the two vehicles, one carrying 14,000 litres of glue.

Some of it has leaked onto the road surface, making conditions very slippery, said police.

The affected road is State Highway One from the intersection of Maungakaramea Rd to the intersection with Mangapai Rd and drivers are being warned to slow down, use care and expect delays.

Police, Fire Service, and road contractors are at the scene and the clean up process is expected to take some hours.
