Far North police are hunting for a man following a serious violence incident in Kaikohe and are warning people not to approach him.

Jacob Poa, a 42-year-old with ties to the Mid North town, is described as Maori and heavily tattooed, including full facial tattoos.

Poa is 175cm tall and solidly built, with short black hair and a goatee.

The incident occurred between the evening of Friday, January 25, and late afternoon on Saturday, January 26.

Detective Sergeant Chris Fouhy, of the Kaikohe CIB, said Poa was actively avoiding police. A warrant was out for his arrest. He was considered dangerous and police advised people not to approach him.

Mr Fouhy also wanted to hear about any sightings of a grey sedan, similar to a Nissan Primera, that Poa was believed to have been travelling in around the Kaikohe CBD and on Mangakahia Rd on Friday evening.

Anyone with information about the incident or Poa's whereabouts can call Mr Fouhy on (09) 405 2966 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
