There were animals of all shapes and sizes at the 137th North Kaipara Show held at Paparoa this weekend - from guinea pigs to large showhunters and bullocks - there were plenty to see as competitors vied for the prized ribbons.

Indoors, the cooking, sewing, flowers, photography, arts and crafts, children's section drew good entries. Meanwhile, side shows, trade sites, Taste of Kaipara food stalls, wood chopping, shearing alpacas, vintage vehicles, live jazz band, a talent contest, and bullock cart rides gave plenty of choice for entertainment and refreshments.

In the western arena the action was fast and furious - barrel racing, steer and calf riding and roping were popular attractions both for competitors, spectators and supporters.

A first for this year was that a two-day schedule was trialled. Sunday competition included the horse and pony breed classes as well as harness ponies.
