Fatal crash near Waimamaku
One person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a car crash near Waimamaku, in the Far North.
Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 12 about 11.30am.
Initial reports indicated one of the people were trapped and had to be freed by volunteer firefighters from Omapere and Kaikohe.
The Northland Electricity rescue helicopter was called and took the injured people to Whangarei Hospital.
The road was closed and a serious crash investigator arrived at the scene about 1pm.
