Parenting workshops
Kerikeri/Kaeo Plunket is holding a series of free parenting workshops offering practical tips and advice. Topics include: Breastfeeding Basics (10am-noon, September 21); Your Active Toddler (10am-noon, September 20 and 27); Sleep Issues (10am-noon, October 5). Writer's scholarship
Northland's active established writers can apply for the University of Auckland Residency at the Michael King Writers' Centre. Writers must be working on a specific project within a range of genres, including fiction, poetry, drama and non-fiction. (Scripts are not eligible.) Application forms are available at www.writerscentre.org.nz. Applications close on Monday, October 12 and the selections are expected to be made in November.
Support for Tibet
Whangarei's Tibetan community and supporters are welcoming the Tibetan Flame of Truth Relay. The six-month-long relay is travelling around the world to raise awareness about human rights struggles in Tibet. The relay will hit Whangarei on October 12, from 5pm-5.30pm at the Town Basin Canopy Bridge, then at the Old Town Hall until 6.30 pm.
