Bail for Taser accused
Another Dargaville resident facing charges of brutally attacking two police officers when a Christmas Day arrest turned ugly has been released on bail. Alissa Sailo Gooding, 26, is charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated assault and damage to police property, namely a Taser. Gooding sought bail in the Whangarei District Court yesterday. She will re-appear in the Dargaville District Court on January 17.
Young trio nabbed
Quick work by Kaeo's community constable saw three alleged teenage burglars arrested with a haul of drinks and chips from the town's Four Square. The store's alarm sounded just after 8pm on January 2 and three boys, aged 14 and 15, were found nearby. They have been referred to police Youth Aid.
Bees buzz firefighters
Two fire crews managed to bring a scrub fire under control despite the scary sight of bees hovering around them. The suspicious fire tore through 1.2 hectares of mostly big old manuka in east Waipu on Sunday afternoon and is believed to be suspicious. Waipu fire chief Trevor Vaile said the fire burned around several beehives, although none of the firefighters was stung.
