Northland's Jonothan Kennett showed he's got what it takes, dropping off a 5m cliff face on his mountain bike on his way to taking out the under-17 division.

Kennett hammered home, and nailed the final 5m drop, to finish first in round two of the New Zealand Downhill Series in Mount Hutt, Christchurch, at the weekend.

Kennett's older brother, Alex, didn't have it all his own way as he made his debut in the men's open division. Alex eventually finished mid-pack in what he considered a good chance to find his feet in the new division.

The Waiotira brothers continue their tour of the South Island with a ride in Nelson this weekend, in an event which is not part of the Downhill Series, before competing in Levin on February 1 and 2.
