Missing girl found

A 16-year-old girl missing from Paihia for more than a week has ben found unharmed in Auckland.

Toia Walker was last seen at Paihia at 1.30am on Saturday, November 17. Her disappearance greatly worried her family because it was so out of character. It was also unlike her not to tell her employers she would not be coming to work.

Police had been looking for her and her extended family had put word out of her disappearance far and wide.

Senior Sergeant Peter Robinson, of Kerikeri police, said the 16-year-old had been found on Sunday while hitch-hiking in Auckland.

She was in the company of a 19-year-old who had been missing since the previous Friday, understood to be Gordon Herbert of Ohaeawai.

Mr Robinson said the girl was in good health and there were no issues when the pair were located. It was not clear why they had gone to Auckland.

The girl was placed in CYF custody on Sunday but was expected to be reunited with her family promptly.

No action would be taken against the 19-year-old.

Police had been tracking the pair for some time on Sunday after a girl fitting her description was seen by a main road in Massey, north of Auckland.
