Police say man not to be approached

A man police say should not be approached is on the run in Northland.

Late last month police issued a warrant to arrest Leon Kereopa after he failed to appear in court.

Whangarei police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said last Friday police stopped a car allegedly driven by Kereopa on Kamo Rd about 11pm, but he drove off.

Police chased the vehicle and Kereopa then pulled into a driveway and ran off. A police dog and handler but were unable to track him and he remains on the run.

Kereopa is believed to carry firearms and has a history of violence and should not be approached.
