Kaikohe: Big little town

Kaikohe Speedway Easter Round

We don't have parking meters, traffic lights or congestion, suits and ties are rare.

Our biggest attraction is the warm and friendly people who welcome you to experience Kaikohe... our hometown.

Kaikohe is the heart of Ngapuhi, the largest Maori tribe in New Zealand. The name Kaikohe is derived from the berries of the Kohekohe tree.

Kaikohe is the biggest country town in the Mid North.

Get a panoramic view of the region from Monument Hill and the Hone Heke Memorial Reserve, a great picnic spot.

Spend a couple of hours looking through the Pioneer Village, a series of thematic displays set in period buildings.

You can access the Twin Coast Cycle Trail to go north to Okaihau or south to Kaikohe Airport and soon down to Kawakawa.
