Deliberation needed on Jack McKerchar's Deed of Settlement
Kaipara's chief executive Steve Ruru is to deliberate on his 'non-disclosure' stance regarding the council's former chief executive, Jack McKerchar's Deed of Settlement.
Mr McKerchar, who was at the helm in the lead-up to the council's $80 million-plus debt blowout, received a $240,000 severance payment from the council when he quit his position in August 2011,
However, other details regarding his settlement have remained under wraps.
At a Kaipara District Council meeting today Mr Ruru was told by the Commissioners, who replaced elected councillors in September this year, that "withholding the deed was compromising the Commissioners ability to govern."
Chairman John Robertson said the public interest in this matter was considerable and asked Mr Ruru to consider their concerns when processing requests for information.
"The release of the deed would significantly enhance the trust and confidence the public had in the council and its leadership," said Mr Robertson.
Following the meeting Mr Ruru said he would reconsider the matter and make a decision as soon as possible.
