Home sellers' tips to secure a buyer

New property revaluations reveal a 12 per cent drop across the Rotorua district
New property revaluations reveal a 12 per cent drop across the Rotorua district

Properties in Whangarei have been revalued in the three-yearly mandatory process by Quotable Value NZ.

Capital values in the district have dropped seven per cent on average, land values down by 12 per cent and industrial land values down 27 per cent.

But it's no reason to panic, says Northland REINZ spokesman Graeme Lester, and here are five tips to help make your home more attractive if selling.

-
1 You've got only 20 seconds to make a good impression when somebody comes into the driveway so ensure it looks as good as it can from outside.

2 The same thing goes for the inside - make the main entrance look as inviting as possible and if you've got a dog, put it outside and spray some air freshener.

3 Do any minor repairs on the outside to make it look as respectable as possible. If major work needs doing make sure it's reflected in the asking price.

4 Make sure the home is bright and airy. Open the curtains and let in some fresh air, it makes the place seem bigger.

5 Get an agent who you trust and can relate to who has experience and a proven track record.
