Generosity can be seen in volumes

Generous donations have been accumulating in Corrine Angus's Ruakaka shed and she couldn't be happier to see them heading to their destination.

About 20,000 books are bound for schools in Fiji where more than 2000 children will benefit from Northlanders' generosity.

Eight pallets of books will set sail from Auckland on Friday and arrive in Suva about a week later where they will fill libraries at 20 needy schools.

Some of the schools lost all their books after Cyclone Evan, and new libraries will be established at these schools, filled with quality second-hand books from Northlanders' school and home libraries and opportunity shops.

The cost of shipping more than six tonnes of books is huge, so Mrs Angus has been holding fundraisers and using crowd-sourcing websites to help pay for the shipping.

Mrs Angus has been running the cause for nearly three years and every year she sees a huge increase in the number of donations.

She said she is always overwhelmed by the generosity of Northlanders as the shipments grow each year.
