The continuing fine weather attracted another good crowd to the second day of the Northland Field Days yesterday with about 7500 patrons - up a couple of hundred on last year's numbers.

Organisers are delighted with the way the event is running.

"We have had no issues and everything is running smoothly," said Meagan Edmonds.

"However, patrons need to be aware of the hot summer temperatures and intense sunshine and take the appropriate precautions."

Yesterday, St John treated at least one person suffering from the effects of the heat.

With another hot forecast today, Ms Edmonds urged people to wear hats and keep hydrated. "There are also free sun stations at various points around the site," she said.

The final day today is expected to be very busy with the ever-popular and fast action loggers' sports taking place The quad skills competitions are also held as is the final of the Tractor Pull Competitions.

An evening, invitation-only birthday bash will be held to celebrate the Tractor Pull competition's 21st birthday. Past and present organisers, sponsors and competitors have been invited to share their memories and no doubt discuss the pulling power of various brands of tractors.

The winner of Thursday's gate prize valued at $4800 was won by Joe Danter. Winner of yesterday's gate prize valued at $2800 was not available at time of print.
