Fatal crash at Ruakaka

A cyclist is dead after a crash on a Northland highway this morning. Emergency services were called to the crash at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Doctors' Hill Rd at Ruakaka, south of Whangarei, at 10.51am. The 66 year old male cyclist, believed to be from Auckland, and a land rover were both heading north and initial reports suggested both ended up on the wrong side of the road. The vehicle was being driven by a 38 year old female from Maungaturoto and her five children were on board. All suffered minor injures. The deceased has not been formally identified. The crash came about half an hour after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Lower Hutt.
