Equestrian: Riders win challenge against Aussies
Northland's Luke Dee has led New Zealand to victory over Queensland in the Trans Tasman Young Rider Shield, held at the National Young Horse Jumping Championships in Dannevirke on the weekend.
The four strong teams, all aboard borrowed horses, completed two rounds a day over the three days of the show, with the Kiwis getting progressively stronger and finishing the final day with a clean slate. Dee's leadership helped New Zealand to jump two clear rounds, a feat almost unheard of.
Team captain Dee also won the five-year-old crown aboard Urban Blue NZPH and claimed the style prize in the same class on Uno Me NZPH. The New Zealand four were: Luke Dee (Ocean Beach), Jake Lambert (Cambridge), Logan Massie (Dannevirke) and Rosie Commons (Auckland).
