A Kerikeri man who crashed at a notorious intersection, then allegedly fled and crashed again moments later, has failed to show up at court for the second time.

Robin John Kenneth Davis, 63, was due in the Kaikohe District Court on Friday in relation to an accident at Pakaraka Junction on January 19 this year.

Police say Davis was turning right on to State Highway 10 when he hit a car heading south on State Highway 1.

The accident was not serious but, instead of stopping, Davis allegedly sped off and lost control a few hundred metres up SH10, demolishing a sign and a fence before crashing into a row of trees.

He had to be cut from the wreckage and was airlifted to Whangarei Hospital by rescue helicopter.

Davis did not appear when called in court on charges of careless driving, driving while prohibited and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

His summons had been returned to sender because he no longer lived at the Kerikeri address in court records. He also failed to show up for a court date in June.

A new date was set for a formal proof hearing on October 23.

Police said they would try again to locate Davis.
