Cleaning up the competition
Mangawhai's Corrine Smith easily cleaned up the competition in the bathtub race at the Pahi Regatta, winning by a good margin from the otherwise all-male field.
Mrs Smith had been in the bathtub only twice before the race - and one of those occasions was a quick stint yesterday before the start.
Her 10-year-old son Codi, who had won the 2hp race last year in the same tub, was unable to compete this year as the family arrived a little late for him to enter, but mum was still in time to take part in the open race and, upping the ante with an 8hp motor, powered her way past her rivals.
Second place went to Glen Cracknell, who drove the Pinewoods (Red Beach team) entry.
It was the 137th time the two-day regatta had been held at Pahi, with motorboat and launch racing on Saturday while Sunday had kayak and bathtub races plus beauty and Mr Muscles competitions. Patrons also enjoyed food, stalls, sideshows and entertainment.
The inaugural Lee Sheppard Memorial kayak race was won by John Leonard.
The Miss Pahi title went to 16-year-old Zoe Lilley, a Year 12 student at Albany Senior Heights School who plans to become a teacher.
