Car sex near church lands woman in the dock

A 25-year-old Whangarei woman whose X-rated antics in a church carpark earned the wrath of churchgoers has appeared in court on drugs charges.

Sandi Maree Sheenan was remanded on bail when she appeared in Kaikohe District Court on Wednesday charged with possession and supply of methamphetamine or P.

She is due back in court on August 22 for a pre-trial hearing about the admissibility of evidence from a police search and phone records.

Sheenan caught churchgoers' attention in March when parishioners caught her and her boyfriend having sex in a car parked outside Whangarei's Rhema Family Church.

Police were called and discovered the car had been stolen from Browns Bay. A search turned up "significant amounts" of methamphetamine and drug utensils, and enquiries revealed the man had 17 warrants out for his arrest.

He is being held in custody.
