The future of Kaitaia's young bowling star Monte Pawa jnr grew brighter with the recent announcement his new coach is former international Anna Muir.

Pawa jnr, who took part in the Iwi Bowl ki-o-rahi tournament in Waitangi on Saturday, was also last week selected to represent the NZ Regional One team and commentators have noted this leading role will give him a chance to show his talent as a skip in the future.

In the next five months, Pawa will represent the Kaitaia Combined 7s team, the Bowls Far North Centre men's team, the Regional One team, and will also attempt to defend his New Zealand under-20 Kittyhawk singles title.

As well, he will travel to Sydney to lead for Richard Girvan in a major pairs competition in May.
