Boaties' ramp works at Waipapa

Far North Holdings plans to resurface and widen a boat ramp offering all-tide access to Kerikeri Inlet.

The $26,000 improvements to the concrete ramp at Waipapa Landing will make it safer and easier for boat trailers to use the one-in-seven-gradient ramp, but the work will limit use next week.

The ramp will remain open, with intermittent disruption, on December 11-12 but will close on December 13-14.

Far North Holdings general manager Chris Galbraith said work had been scheduled for those days to coincide with the month's lowest tides.

Fast-curing concrete would be used so a little rain wouldn't be a problem - but if there was heavy rain the project would be postponed until March or April.

Boaties seeking all-tide access to Kerikeri Inlet on days when the ramp was closed could launch their boats at Rangitane, Opito Bay or Doves Bay. The Far North District Council is starting deck repairs on nearby Waipapa Landing Bridge next week.
