A Northland beauty contestant has a new challenge ahead of her tomorrow - going head-to-head and wheel-to-wheel against the NZ Wheel Blacks in a sport affectionately known as "murderball".

Esther-Jordan Muriwai (pictured), from Whangarei, is part of the Miss World New Zealand 2013 contestants team taking on the Wheel Blacks in wheelchair rugby at the Otara Spinal Unit in Auckland from 5pm tomorrow.

The event aims to showcase just how fun wheelchair rugby is, as well as promote an upcoming Miss World NZ fundraising event.

The Wheel Blacks team will feature Northern Advocate Sports Editor and two-time Paralympic Gold medallist Cameron Leslie.

Miss Muriwai is also disabled with a crippling respiratory condition called bronchiectasis. Spending much of her childhood in Whangarei Hospital's children's ward, it was "practically (her) second home".

Despite her limitations, Miss Muriwai is excited to face the trials of this weekend's game as this was the year she chose "to challenge myself, break the barriers, [and] do all the things I thought I could never do."
