Athletics Whangarei's Caitlin Ahlers, 10, has been selected in the Athletics Auckland junior team to take part in an international meeting in Sydney.

The Maunu Primary School student will compete in the Trans Tasman Athletics Match with New South Wales in January.

The Auckland selectors boosted their team with athletes from outside their region for this annual meeting, and alongside Ahlers they have included athletes from Taranaki, Rotorua and Palmerston North.

Ahlers confirmed her selection in Saturday's meeting at Mt Smart with a win in her 100m race and a fine run in the 800m, where she ran her second fastest time (2m 53s) to finish fourth .

Ahlers is the Athletics Northland G10 400m champion and is coached by Athletics Whangarei's Chris Portch.

She will be in action on her home track when Whangarei Primary Schools stage their championships on December 4, at the ASB Sports Arena.
