Arrests for night of 'mass disorder'
A night of "mass disorder" involving young men fuelled by alcohol and testosterone kept Whangarei police busy at the weekend.
Acting Sergeant Sue Grocott said a number of disorder incidents on Saturday night and Sunday morning culminated with "mass disorder" on Vine St between 4am and 5am Sunday.
Ms Grocott said Melbas and Heaven, both in Vine St, shut at the same time on Sunday morning, with patrons causing general chaos out in the street for an hour or so.
"It was drunk males - filled with beer and testosterone - fighting, causing disorder and breaching the liquor ban," she said.
Ten people were arrested during the mass disorder, with a total of 18 arrested during the night for disorder offences. All but five were released by Sunday morning, with the rest to appear in court yesterday.
