Sergeant Grant Rouse said a 21-year-old man allegedly trying to start a fight outside a Vine St nightclub shortly before 4am yesterday was being charged with disorderly behaviour when his 18-year-old girlfriend got involved on his behalf.

She was also charged with disorderly behaviour.

About five minutes later two men, one 20 and the other 34, were charged with fighting after allegedly scrapping outside Melba's Bar in Vine St.

Mr Rouse said liquor was a factor in these cases, and in weekend domestic disputes and driving offences.

Six motorists were charged with driving with excess breath alcohol in the city between 6.15pm on Saturday and 3.50am yesterday.

One of them was a driver under 20 who recorded 260 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit for drivers under 20 is a blood alcohol concentration of zero.
