More charges of sexually abusing boys have been laid against the former deputy principal of a Kaitaia school who has already pleaded guilty to abusing 15 other boys.

The 23 additional charges, involving a further eight victims, have been laid against Parker, 37, the former deputy principal of Pamapuria School.

Parker who taught at the school 10km south of Kaitaia, pleaded guilty in August to 49 sexual offences involving 15 boys.

He was to be sentenced on those charges in Kaitaia District Court on Thursday, but that's likely to be put off as he will appear in the court the same day on the fresh charges.

Parker also faces eight charges of an indecent act on a boy aged under 12 years; four charges of an indecent act on a boy aged between 12 and 16 years; one of an indecent assault on a boy aged under 12 years; four of indecent assault on a boy aged between 12 and 16 years; one charge of indecent assault on a boy aged between 12 and 16 (laid under section 140A of the Crimes Act 1961); one of indecent assault on a boy aged under 16 (laid under section 140A of the Crimes Act 1961); and four of sexual violation.

The majority of the new charges cover the period from 2006 to 2012. The two charges laid under section 140A of the Crimes Act 1961 relate to offences in 1999. A report released last week into the first charges Parker faced found he was able to continue his offending because of his close relationship with the principal and his authority as deputy principal and kapa haka leader.
