Further remand for teen on murder charge

A teenage Whangarei woman charged with the murder of a 17-year-old man who collapsed and died while shopping has been further remanded on bail.

No plea was taken when Shaylene Wharerau, 17, appeared before Justice of the Peace Shirley MacLucas in the Whangarei District Court today.

She will re-appear on January 18, 2013.

Wharerau was initially accused of stabbing Brendon Panapa-Ripia in the chest last month during a domestic dispute.

At the time, Panapa-Ripia received surgery in Auckland but he died suddenly two weeks ago while shopping at The Warehouse in Whangarei.

The initial charge was upgraded to murder and Wharerau entered no plea to the charge when she appeared in the Whangarei District Court last month.
