Plane in trouble above Kaitaia

UPDATE 9.17am: Plane has landed successfully

UPDATE 9:14am

Firefighters using breathing gear are at the end of the runway and are ready with foam. An ambulance is also at the end of the runway where the plane is expected to land in about 4 minutes.

UPDATE: 9.00am

Police, fire and abulance crews at the Kaitaia aero club. Indications are the light plane has now been able to get the landing gear down and will attempt to land at 9.15am

8:47am:

A light plane with three people on board is having trouble landing at Kaitaia Aero Club.

Initial reports indicate they are having trouble with the under carriage and are now circling the airport to use up fuel.

Fire crews from Kaitaia are on their way. Police have been called as well.
