A man has been spared jail for drink driving by the narrowest of margins.

Driver ignored disqualification to feed family

A Whangarei father of six who put earning a living ahead of complying with driving restrictions has been spared jail by the narrowest of margins for his third and fourth disqualified driving charges and fifth for driving with excess breath-alcohol.

It is expected Northland MP Mike Sabin will introduce the bill in June.

Kaipara bill step closer

Legal fraternity 'shattered' by sudden death of senior judge

The legal fraternity has been "shattered" by the sudden death of one of the country's most senior judges. Justice Robert Chambers sat on the Supreme Court and died peacefully in his sleep last night at his home in Wellington aged 59. A good friend - Auckland Crown Solicitor Simon Moore QC - described Justice Chambers as "an extraordinary talent"who had so much more to give. "His strengths were his ability to connect to people using his humour, his charm and his gregarious nature ... He leaves the legal profession, quite frankly, shattered."
